I like the signing... 2 way deal, so no impact on the cap if he isn't required with the big club.. goalie with NHL experience in a pinch (upgrade over Legace I'd say)... I see RW concern about lack of playing time the past 2 seasons... I'd say as long as he's able to get 25-30 games in before any potential injury/call up, it should be a non-factor by that time.

Definitely a good signing. Of all positions goaltending is where the team needs the most help now, as well as the most amount of rebuilding in the minors.

Sens just extended Drake Batherson 6yrs/$5M. This can't help the Pens' case for getting a reasonable extension on Rust.

Money is just growing on trees. Get ready fans in attendance You are going to pay dearly in the future. Book it Not getting any of my money any more. Too much money and very little results for the cash being spent. But I guess free money is now in style

What makes this even more of a head scratcher is that Staal and Bozak are still available and seem to be better options than Boyle, who hasn’t seen NHL action in over a year.

I think picking between Bozak and Boyle is firmly in the "no good options" territory and doesn't really matter. Maybe Staal just doesn't want to come here because yeah, he's on a different level than those guys.

Yea Staal doesn't want to come here. If Carter wasn't here he MIGHT consider it, but no. I mean if Boyle makes the team to fill the 4c spot while Geno is out that means he earned it so it's whatever.

That’s always a possibility, plus maybe they wanted something more guaranteed than a tryout contract.

That being said if Boyle takes the 4C spot he obviously earned it which is really all you can hope for with a PTO.

Yea at first I was like WTF then I didn't really care because he will only be there if he earns it.

5M is basically the floor for top 6 anymore.

Rust is much better then a floor top 6 and he's set up for a huge payday if this year is like his last too. Hope he gets it too, just not here.

Batherson IMO is not a top six just yet. This could wind up being a going rate if he keeps up the numbers, but after one year? Big gamble.

If the Pens can ink Rust to a deal that pays him mid $5's then I think they need to jump all over it. He's only getting better despite his age and in a couple of years becomes a nice asset to move for futures. The cap probably starts going up by the time the Pens go full rebuild, so his hit looks better.

Not surprised at this point. These are the kind of low-risk moves that are definitely worth taking, but Hextall is clearly limping in.

I'd be shocked if Rust got that little.

As for Batherson, he's currently the RH forward on their top PP so that's a nice spot to improve. About 50 pointa in his age 23 season. He could go backwards, but they could also save on this so I think it's an ok gamble myself.

Yeah, that's why I said they should jump on if they can. I expect he'll get in the $6M-$6.5M range.

I finally watched the Danbury Trashers Doc. Pretty impressive team that kid put together. Especially for 17 years old. All the focus is on the fighting but the team had some good hockey players respectively to the league. The toughest guys + goal scorers is never a bad thing. Still find it funny that people think removing that part of the game actually grows hockey. It doesn’t. I would be calling his crazy middle school coach with a contract if I owned a team. That dude was bat poop crazy. Haha.
